What is MilkWorks?
MilkWorks is a non-profit community breastfeeding center located in Lincoln and Omaha. The organization was founded in 2001 by seven Lincoln women who were committed to providing accurate information and supportive breastfeeding assistance to mothers. In 2015, we opened an Omaha location. MilkWorks is a registered 501 (c)3 organization, which allows us to accept tax deductible donations and grants to support our mission: Creating a healthier community by helping mother breastfeed their babies.
Both of our locations provide several educational and support services at no cost, including moms’ groups, drop-in weight checks, our Breastfeeding Information Center, student internships, and community presentations. All our front desk staff are skilled at providing basic breastfeeding support and guidance.
We have experienced international board certified lactation consultants (IBCLCs) on staff who work with mothers and babies individually. Dr. Kathy Leeper, a breastfeeding medicine specialist, serves as a consultant to our clinical team. Our IBCLCs are credentialed with most private insurance plans and we file consultations as a preventive women’s health service under the Affordable Care Act. If a mother does not have private insurance coverage, we have fee options that allow her to access care within her means. We are currently working with the Heritage Health Nebraska Medicaid plans to implement coverage of breastfeeding support for mothers and babies who have Medicaid insurance. In the meantime, families who have Medicaid insurance may receive consultations at no cost at our Lincoln location.
MilkWorks is an in-network durable medical equipment (DME) provider for most private insurance plans and for all Nebraska Medicaid plans. This allows mothers to obtain quality breast pumps using their insurance coverage. We carry both Medical Need and Personal Use Pumps. All our pumps are covered by a complimentary Pump Service Plan, which allows mothers to get personalized education and support when using a pump.
We sell quality breastfeeding supplies, baby care items and gifts for new parents. Our staff are certified nursing bra fitters and enjoy providing information and guidance on all the products that we carry. All proceeds from our retail sales support our free educational and support services.
We love helping families learn about breastfeeding. Thank you for trusting us to help you nourish and care for your baby!
We provide expert help from international board certified lactation consultants (IBCLCs), including a comprehensive feeding assessment and follow up care until your baby is feeding well. It's what we love to do.
