Breastfeeding and more!

 

MilkWorks is a community breastfeeding center. Our goal is to provide you with all the support you need to breastfeed your baby.  

Pick and choose from a variety of classes and support services to help you learn about breastfeeding, spend time with other mothers, follow your baby’s weight, get ready to return to work outside the home and start your baby on solid foods.

Watch for our special classes and events that we offer throughout the year (return to work, reusable diapers, baby wearing, healthy shoes for healthy feet), and take advantage of our virtual support for moms who are back at work or parents who have a baby with a food sensitivity.   

If you find that you and your baby need some individualized breastfeeding expertise, our board certified lactation consultants and our breastfeeding medicine specialist, Dr. Kathy Leeper, are here for you.  If you have a newborn, we will see you within 24 hours.

We are proud to offer Medela’s hospital grade rental pump (the Symphony) and the lowest Pump In Style and Freestyle prices in town - along with personalized teaching and custom fit breast shields.  

All About Breastfeeding

Get ready to feed your newborn!  Learn breastfeeding basics, as well as the most common challenges that mothers face when breastfeeding, and how to get support. Fee is $25 for 2 classes PLUS our Return to Work class. Please note:  Your private insurance plan may cover this class.

Two Class Series:

  • Tuesday, May 7 & 14 & 21 (RTW); 7-9 pm
  • Tuesday, June 4 & 11 & 18 (RTW); 7-9 pm

One Class Series (All About Breastfeeding only, see Return to Work class dates below)

  • Saturday, May 18, 10 am-2:30 pm (1/2 hour break for lunch)
  • Saturday, June 1, 10 am-2:30 pm (1/2 hour break for lunch)


(To accommodate special needs or schedules, we offer a private breastfeeding class by appointment only. The fee for this 90 minute class is $75. Please call MilkWorks for availability.)

Return to Work

rwp_liz_0240For new mothers who are returning to work or school outside the home while breastfeeding. Learn the “ins and outs” of pumping, storing milk, federal regulations and working with your day care provider. This class is included as part of our All About Breastfeeding series. You may attend while pregnant, or after your baby is born. (Fee is $10 if taken alone.)

Introducing Solids & Making Your Own Baby Food

100927-202839Perfect for parents of babies who are 3 to 9 months old. Taught by registered dietician, Natalie Sehi, this class covers tips on readiness signs, safety awareness, introducing new foods and making your own baby food (save money and go organic if you want to!). Fee is $10. (This class is included in our Lactation Care package.)

Every Tuesday (by appointment only) expecting families, those who are curious about cloth diapers, those with knowledge but wanting more personal help, and anyone and everyone in between, can receive their own personal 1-on-1 class with a cloth diapering expert. This class will be at least 30 minutes of guaranteed individual help! The cost is $10, to be paid at the time of scheduling the appointment. Milk & Cookies Photo Shoot

milkandcookiesphotowebThe fabulous Images for a Lifetime is still taking beautiful photos of MilkWorks' babies every month -  now at their studio! Half of the $30 session fee is donated to MilkWorks as part of our Best Beginnings fund drive (to make sure that no family is left without breastfeeding support) and you receive special discounted prices for photos!

Also, Milkworks and Images for a Lifetime are teaming up for a Celebrate Mom's Photo Shoot - just in time for Mother's Day. On Saturday, April 27th, Images will set up a studio at MilkWorks and give all of you moms out there the gift of memories...images that you may not have realized you wanted, but once you have them, you'll cherish them forever! The focus of this event is YOU, mom! You with your kids, you with each of your kids, even you with YOUR mom. A portion of the sales from this event will be donated to MilkWorks. Kindersigns

signlanguageMarcia Murray, a Baby Sign Language Specialist, will help you learn how to sign with your baby. Signing is a perfect way to communicate with your 6 to 18 month old. It helps pre-verbal children express their wants and needs - and reduces frustration for both kids and parents. Both parents and grandparents are welcome to attend. Class meets once a week for 4 weeks.  Fee is $20 for a 4 week session.

  • Tuesdays: July 9, 16, 23, 30; 12:30-1 pm

 This FREE presentation is designed for moms who are planning to return to work outside the home while breastfeeding.The event features a panel of moms who will share practical advice, guidance from a lactation consultant and door prizes, including a Pump In Style.  Registration is limited, so sign up early!
