Breastfeeding 101
If you are pregnant and would like helpful hints on getting started, when to get help, and how to use a breast pump, we suggest you take Breastfeeding 101. This two class series is offered from 7 to 9 pm once a month in a small group setting.  The fee is $20 (Medicaid accepted).  We encourage you to bring your partner, a family member, or a friend with you.  Special Saturday one-day classes are also offered periodically.

To accommodate special needs or schedules, we offer a private brestfeeding class by appointment only. The fee for this 90 minutes, individualized class is $75. Please call MilkWorks at 423-6402 to schedule.

Milk Memos
This two class series is designed JUST for new mothers who are planning to return to employment outside the home while breastfeeding. You (and your baby) are invited to join a small group of women during your maternity leave and learn the "ins and outs" of pumping, storing milk and returning to work. This series is based on a book written by two women who work for IBM and is taught by a mother and breastfeeding educator who has worked outside the home while breastfeeding. Milk Memos is offered on Monday nights. The fee is $20 or part of the MilkWorks Class Pass. Optional purchase of Milk Memos book $5.

Introducing Solids and Making Your Own Baby Food
You’ve done a great job getting your baby off to a great start.  Want to know what’s next?  Registered dietician and mother of 3, Lisa Kopecky will help you navigate the world of solid foods for your baby.  This class is ideal for parents of 3 to 9 month old babies. Tips on readiness signs, safety awarness, introducing new foods and making your own baby food (a great way to save money and go organic if you want to!)  Easier, quicker, and more convenient than you think. The fee for this class is $10 or part of the MilkWorks Class Pass (free to MilkWorks' consult clients).

Baby Wearing 101
Babies love to be held close and parents love free hands! Learn how to select and wear a sling or baby carrier that works for you. (Feel free to bring a sling/carrier to the class that you already have.) We take the confusion out of learning-and cover safety and comfort aspects as well. Fee is $10 (Free with MilkWorks Class Pass) and includes a $10 coupon for sling or baby carrier product at babyworks.

Diaper Up!
Re-usable diapers are all the rage for babies: good for the environment and even good for the pocket book! Come and learn the ins and outs of using cloth diapers: different types, how to clean, how many to buy, and how to use. This event is free with MilkWorks Class Pass and includes a $10 coupon for diapers and accessories at babyworks, the boutique at MilkWorks. See Events for dates and times.

You Can Do It:  Return to Work and Breastfeed Your Baby
This complimentary breakfast and panel presentation is co-sponsored by Breastfeeding:  Healthy Kids 2010, a community work group, MilkWorks and Medela.  Offered several times a year in varying locations around the community, it is designed for mothers who are returning to work or school while breastfeeding.  A lactation consultant and a panel of “experienced” mothers offer helpful hints.  The presentation includes a nutritious breakfast, information on renting or purchasing breast pumps and several door prizes, including a Medela Pump in Style.  Registration is required.  There is no fee.  See Events for dates and locations.

Development & Learning Classes
Kindersigns
Learn to sign with your little one with Marcia Murray, Baby Sign Language Specialist. Signing is a perfect way to communicate with your 6 to 18 month old baby. It helps pre-verbal children express their wants and needs - and reduces frustration for both children and parents.

Intro to Yoga
All moms deserve a little special attention. Attend a FREE yoga demonstration while you are pregnant or with your new baby (pre-crawling). yoga helps to calm, strengthen and relax - everything a mom-to-be or new mom needs. Try it out - we think you'll like it! Please register. Bring your own mat, if you have one.

Corporate Connections
MilkWorks offers education and support to local businesses and their employees who are breastfeeding.  Corporate presentations and employee information packets with discount coupons are provided at no cost (donations welcome) to businesses that participate in the program.  Discounts are also available for businesses purchasing hospital grade breast pumps for their lactation rooms.  Contact MilkWorks for further information.

Community Outreach
Our breastfeeding educators and lactation consultants are available for presentations to community groups, including high school classes, service groups and university classes, at no cost (donations welcome).  Contact MilkWorks for further information.

Education for Health Care Providers
MilkWorks serves as a clinic site for nursing and dietetic students and family practice residents.  Other health care providers or students are welcome to visit or rotate through MilkWorks.  Contact MilkWorks for further information.

Anyone can call MilkWorks

We serve as a resource for our entire community including other health care providers, parents, nursing and dietetic students, high school classes, family members, employers and social service agencies. 

Parent Information Center
All of our educational hand outs are available online in our Parent Information Center. You may also stop by MilkWorks and access hard copies of any of our hand outs.

Please note: Our Parent Information Center is designed to provide basic breastfeeding information that is helpful as parents learn more about breastfeeding. If a mother requires individualized problem solving, we recommend that she seek assistance from a board certified lactation consultant.
