MilkWorks is a non-profit community breastfeeding center serving Lincoln, Omaha, and eastern Nebraska. The organization was founded in 2001 in response to the US Surgeon General’s Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding, which identified infant nutrition as a major factor in the health and well-being of infants, and called for a wide range of support measures to increase breastfeeding rates.

Over the past 18 years, MilkWorks has served as a resource for thousands of mothers, health care providers, students, employers, and community members. MilkWorks has been recognized nationally as a model program for effective breastfeeding support.

The Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director to carry out its mission of creating a healthier community by helping mothers breastfeed their babies, and lead the organization into an exciting next phase of its development, with an emphasis on sustainable funding, promotion of programs, and community collaborations.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, provides overall leadership, and has primary responsibility for the quality of the organization, including a strong Leadership Team and effective strategic planning. The Executive Director will lead the organization toward advancing its mission by maintaining and creating new revenue sources, innovative community partnerships, and strong programs.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Protect and sustain quality programs and explore select opportunities for new collaborations.

•Help develop and support a strong board of directors.

•Work collaboratively with MilkWorks Medical Director to enhance clinical services.

•Develop, lead and coach the organization’s Leadership Team.

•Monitor data collection and assessment of programs.

•Maintain strong working relationships among staff.

•Work closely with the board to develop a yearly budget and monitor finances.

Essential Qualifications:

•Proven experience developing and leading teams and guiding an organization.

•Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

•Passion for the organization’s mission.

•Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.

The Executive Director will possess expertise on issues relevant to the organization to make well-informed, mission-driven decisions in fundraising, marketing, networking, technology, program development, staffing and finances. Experience with insurance reimbursement is a plus. Must maintain a consistent presence at both Omaha and Lincoln locations. Salary: Starting at $75,000, commensurate with experience.
