FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports To: Community Resource Director 
Hours: Full Time, typically Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Includes one Saturday per month.
Pay: $22.00 per hour

About the Opportunity 
MilkWorks is launching a paid IBCLC Fellowship designed to increase opportunities for candidates pursuing International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification to earn clinical hours providing breastfeeding education or care through Pathway/Option 1. The fellow will work full time at our Omaha community breastfeeding center, earning required clinical hours in a setting approved as a Recognized Breastfeeding Support Organization by the IBLCE. Upon successful completion of the fellowship and eligibility to sit for the IBCLC exam, the fellow will transition into employment as a MilkWorks IBCLC for at least two years after certification. 

What the Fellowship Provides 

  • Full time paid role at $22 per hour 
  • A structured plan to complete approximately 1,000 Pathway 1 clinical hours in an approved community lactation setting 
  • Hands-on experience serving breastfeeding families in a trusted outpatient clinic 
  • Support in preparing for September 2026 or April 2027 IBCLC exam eligibility 
  • MilkWorks will cover the cost of the IBCLC certification exam fee 
  • Mentorship from experienced Breastfeeding Educators and IBCLCs and access to clinic resources 
  • A defined path to full time employment as a credentialed IBCLC after passing the exam 

Who Should Apply 
This program is intended for candidates who are pursuing IBCLC credentialing and need paid clinical experience to complete Pathway 1 requirements.  

Qualified candidates will: 

  • Be pursuing Pathway 1 IBCLC eligibility 
  • Have completed or nearing completion of the required health sciences education coursework and lactation education coursework 
  • Be prepared to sit for the IBCLC exam by September 2026 or April 2027 
  • Be able to complete approximately 1,000 clinical hours prior to the exam application 
  • Commit to working as an IBCLC at MilkWorks for at least two years after certification 

Role Summary 
During the fellowship year, the fellow works within our team of Breastfeeding Educators. Daily responsibilities include: 

  • Greeting and checking in clients for lactation services 
  • Assisting with scheduling, phone support, and care coordination 
  • Educating families on breastfeeding basics, pumps, supplies, and resource navigation 
  • Supporting pump and scale rentals and retail purchases 
  • Facilitating groups or classes and assisting with community outreach 
  • Maintaining a welcoming, organized clinic space 

This role involves working directly with families, supporting clinical workflows, and modeling reliable, compassionate care.
