Hours: Part-time, 16-20 hours per week, including one Saturday per month
Pay Range: $25.57 - $30.79 per hour

JOB SUMMARY: The International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at MilkWorks provides lactation management and education to parents and healthcare professionals. Each IBCLC conducts breastfeeding assessments, counsels patients, and provides solutions for breastfeeding challenges such as insufficient weight gain, latch difficulties, poor milk transfer, low milk supply, sore nipples, plugged ducts, and mastitis. The IBCLC provides up-to-date information on breastfeeding and performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following as well as other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned:
• Maintain a working knowledge of human lactation, breastfeeding, and nutritional needs of infants and nursing women.
• Assess and address common breastfeeding challenges, including medical and physical conditions that may impact breastfeeding, using best-practice protocols.
• Apply effective counseling techniques and educational methods tailored to individual patient needs.
• Support parents in their feeding journey, establishing rapport with patients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Develop personalized feeding plans and follow-up assessments, including monitoring infant weight and health.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation of assessments, case progress, and client visits in the electronic medical record (EMR) in compliance with HIPAA standards, maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Make referrals to other healthcare professionals as needed.
• Educate patients on the proper use of their personal-use breast pumps.
• Maintain knowledge of and utilize the MilkWorks Breastfeeding Information Center (BIC) and LC handouts.
• Work directly with the LCL to implement policies and procedures that support breastfeeding.
• Stay informed about available community resources to support nursing parents.
• Complete continuing education as necessary to maintain IBCLC certification and any additional required licenses.
• Help maintain a clean and organized consultation space, including restocking supplies and ensuring the availability of handouts.
• Respond to voicemails, phone, and internal emails promptly, typically within one business day.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Experience:
• IBCLC Certification required.
• Basic CPR certification required.
• Strong understanding of the healthcare industry, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain professional provider relationships.
• Ability to multitask, maintain attention to detail, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in computer software, including electronic medical record (EMR) software, Microsoft Office 365, and email communication.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and medical charting. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills & Abilities:
• Must be well organized and possess excellent communication skills
• Must be detail oriented, conscientious, and able to follow through
• Must be able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing deadlines, emergency calls and priorities
• Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance required
