Happy Birthday to MilkWorks!
MilkWorks, your community breastfeeding center, is celebrating 15 years of helping moms breastfeed their babies! It all began in 2001 with seven women who wanted to support breastfeeding moms. Our fearless founders got started in a tiny space in the Trade Center helping families who were having trouble feeding their babies and had nobody else to turn to. Well, like they say, the rest is history (and you can read more about that here.)
We are a place where all families can turn to for breastfeeding support. The Affordable Care Act means that breastfeeding help is now covered by insurance for many families, but the benefits of breastfeeding are for everyone, not just those who can afford it.
In 2016, MilkWorks is working to ensure Medicaid covers breastfeeding support. We ask our community to contribute $75,000 to provide care for low income families. You can make sure MilkWorks will be here for all moms and babies in our community who need us.

Here's how you can help:
Make a Donation
- Donate online in honor of your baby’s birthday, a friend, a mom, your favorite lactation consultant!
- Mail a donation to 5930 South 58th St., Suite W, Lincoln, NE 68516
- Donate through your workplace giving campaign. MilkWorks is a member of Community Services Fund and the Combined Federal Campaign for federal employees. No matter what type of employee giving campaign your worksite has available, you can always write in MilkWorks.
Connect with each other to make a bigger impact!
- When’s the last time your talked to your old playgroup friends or the ladies you met at MilkWorks Mom’s Group? Consider reaching out to them and collectively making a larger donation. Perhaps $150 or event $1,500 in honor of MilkWorks' 15th Birthday.
- Have co-workers who love MilkWorks? Conduct a Workplace Challenge to try to reach a donation of $1,500 for MilkWorks 15th Birthday. If 15 moms give $100 each, you’re there!
MilkBabies - Where Are They Now?

We thought it would be fun to take a look back through the last 15 years and reconnect with moms who came to MilkWorks for help, and what their “MilkBaby” is doing now. Come back every month to enjoy a newly featured family.
In honor of our 16th birthday, meet Jody and her MilkBabies. Jody first came to MilkWorks 16 years ago with her first baby. As a loyal MilkMom, all five of her kids, including her premature twins, Natalie and Jordan, hung out at MilkWorks.
MilkWorks Senior Lactation Consultant, Suzy Meyers, has been helping mothers feed their babies at MilkWorks since we opened in 2001. For the past couple of years, on Wednesday afternoons, she can be found hosting a group consult session. In Suzy’s words, this is what Wednesday afternoon is all about.
Meet Azusa, mother of Alex and Lanha. She came to MilkWorks because breastfeeding hurt. Seven years later, she brings all her friends who are pregnant to MilkWorks so they know where they can get support.

Jade came to MilkWorks in 2005 with her daughter Alyssa. She was having trouble getting Alyssa to latch and her doctor told her about MilkWorks.
Shanon and Sami came to MilkWorks in 2002. MilkWorks was just over a year old, and our moms' groups were held on a sofa and a few chairs in our waiting area, right next to the weigh station. Our staff was small (less than 10), and there was no private insurance coverage for pumps or breastfeeding support......
